…and here is how you can give some of our favorite kids in the whole wide world the best few days of their summer:

• Come out and help out some!  There are a bunch of fun and needed ways you can be  with the kids at camp – from being a counselor to coming out one day and helping with crafts.  Please email amber@mlfonline.org for Elementary camp and abby@mlfonline.org for Middle/high school camp

Donate items for crafts and activities

• Flip-Flops (need 120 pairs) child sizes and solid colors
• Marbles and HulaHoops
• Jacks and Jump Ropes and Card games
• Small bottles of water (need a LOT!) M&M Candies — any kind/size bags

Donate items needed for the campers — many of the campers just do not have and cannot afford the items they need for camp:

• Linens Sheets, blankets, sleeping bags, pillows, pillow cases, towels – Please look through your linen closet and see if you have anything they could use!
•  Children’s Clothes -Elastic-waiste shorts,T-shirts, swimsuits, underwear (Child sizes)
• Toiletries liquid soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant Swim Stuff SunScreen Lotion (The spray kind sorks best for us)
• Pool Inflateables  -”arm-bubbles” and  pool toys

Do you remember having ‘growing pains?”  I can remember lying in bed as a child and my legs just aching during a growth spurt.

During the summer between my son’s 8^th and 9^th grade year he grew 3 inches and 2 shoe sizes – WOW!  I remember thinking how that must cause some serious aching to grow that much that fast.

I think ‘GROWING PAINS’ is a perfect way to describe Monday Nights at MNM last fall – Although it was WONDERFUL to have so many more kids attending, we grew so much and so fast that we kinda couldn’t keep up and do things as well as we should have.

The great news is that over the winter break we have had time to “catch up” and restructure a LOT of things that will make the evening less chaotic, more effective for the kids, and more enjoyable for all of the volunteeers.

And if you have any more ideas that might be beneficial, please send them – it will help us a LOT!

I really hope to see you on Mondays  — We need bunches more volunteers.  (This is the perfect way for a family to volunteer or for students to earn community service hours.)

The GREAT news is that we at least 60 MNM students (Prek-12th grade) begging to come to Homework Help every Tuesday and Thursday.  The bad news is that we have to turn so many of them away because we do not have enough volunteers to keep the ratio of tutors to students low enough to be effective.  Check your schedules….it is only a little more than an hour from 2:15 – 3:30 and you can’t imagine the world of good it does.  Most of the kids don’t have anyone at home who speaks English in order to help them.  Drop us an email if you can come help them complete their daily homework assignments.  Thanks!
